The rivers Orwell, Stour & slightly further north, the Deben are jewels of the east coast. Stone cruisers have had several cruises each year to destinations such as Shotley marina, Suffolk Yacht Harbour & further up the Orwell to Ipswich, where one can berth very close to the town centre
Shotley is approximately 26 miles from Stone. If we pick the favourable tides this can be covered quite comfortably in 5-6 hours. The trip is not arduous & navigation is easy once past the Colne Bar.
Apart from Ipswich each marina has its own point of interest whether it be the lightship bar & restaurant at Suffolk yacht harbour, or the restaurant at Shotley. For nature lovers there are excellent riverside walks. Along the Stour there are plenty of places to anchor for the night & watch the sunrise in perfect peace & safety.
