Dover is currently undergoing major changes to the marina area. A new marina is expected to be ready for use 2021. Cruisers should check the details for entry to the harbour & for berthing prior to departure if Dover is on the itinery.
Below is a link for Dover harbour
When approaching the harbour from the east navigators should call the port control immediately the harbour comes into sight on VHF 74. State their intentions to the port control & await instructions. This will apply whether wishing to enter, or just pass the port. Generally if wishing to enter the caller will be instructed to sail approx 200/150 yds of the eastern entrance & keep north of it. This is a useful point to drop sail & start the engine if not already started. (I find that it is wise to start the engine a little earlier). In doing so making sure not to obstruct ferries exiting & entering the port. Then having made contact again they will receive instructions when it is safe to enter & proceed to the marina. The marina can be contacted when closing to it on VHF 80.
